Once again, Vermont Adaptive is participating in the nationally recognized charitable giving campaign, #GivingTuesday on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022. This year, Vermont Adaptive will harness the generosity from The Sills Family Foundation, The Kimpton Family Fund, and Dave and Melissa Baker, who collectively pledged a matching gift of $50,000 for #GivingTuesday2022.
That means your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000.

Last year, YOU raised more than $200,000 during our #GivingTuesday event – and with your help we know we can raise even more this #GivingTuesday for adaptive sports programs and athletes.

VT50 Crews and Their Vehicles

Crews and Crew Vehicles

The Vermont 50 allows our race participants to have crews.
ONE VEHICLE per participant or ONE VEHICLE per relay team
Crews give aid (food, beverages, change of clothes etc) to race participants and support (cheering, encouragement) during our race.
Crews meet their racers ONLY at designated aid stations on course.
In order to park at these designated aid stations CREW VEHICLES must display a CREW PARKING PERMIT.
Vehicles that arrive at the designated aid stations without a parking permit will be asked to leave or be towed.
Vehicles must be registered on Saturday at the CREW TABLE in order to receive aid station driving directions and their parking permit.
CONTACT WITH RACE PARTICIPANTS ANYWHERE OUTSIDE OF THESE DESIGNATED AID STATIONS IS A VIOLATION OF RACE RULES AND GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION.

Crew Vehicles On Course Must Display A Parking Permit

Participants may register ONE vehicle at the Information Table to “crew” them on course.
This vehicle MUST display the “Permit” to allow them to park at the designated aid stations.
Relay Teams-one vehicle per team.
Please stay off the actual race course as much as possible.
You will be given Crew directions to these designated aid stations at the Information Table.

Why Only ONE Vehicle ?

In order to receive the proper permits and support of the community members around our race we MUST keep traffic on race day to a minimum.
We have agreed with the communities to enforce the ONE VEHICLE per participant (or relay team) rule. This agreement allows our race to continue.
Violation of the ONE VEHICLE rule jeopardizes the future of our race.

Friends And Family-Are They Crew?

They can be.
Crews follow you around on race day giving you support during the race.
They can provide you with food, beverages, change of clothing etc.
But they can ONLY do this at designated aid station locations on course.
And their vehicle must be registered with us and they must display our race crew parking permit.

In order to enter any of these aid stations, the CREW VEHICLE must display our race PARKING PERMIT.
Vehicles WITHOUT A PERMIT will be asked to leave or will be towed.

#7 Greenall’s (50 Km, 50 Mi) K13.4 M/50M 31.5 M
#10 Johnson’s (50 Km, 50 Mi) K28.5 M/ 50M 47.5 M

Friends, Family, Spectators-Your Cheering Squad

Friends, Family and people just wanting to see you finish can park at the Ascutney Outdoors parking lot (or other designated parking around base camp) and wait for you to arrive at the finish line to cheer you on.
No parking permit is required to park at base camp.

VT50 Race Weekend Schedule-Sunday Race Day

Sunday Race Morning

Traffic WILL be an issue, please plan ahead. Please obey our had working volunteers who will get you parks safely and as quickly as possible.
You might consider CARPOOLING. Plan your race strategy, save gas and save a space or two.

Check in and Meeting for 50 milers

Racer Check in opens at 5 a.m.
Racer Meeting at 5:30 a.m. SHARP.
All 50 mile racers must attend and give Bib # to check-in person. (50 mile racers only)

Chip Timing-Start Time

Your time starts when the chip in your Bib/Plaque crosses the timing mat.

Race Finish Time for Everyone

All races are closed at 6:30 p.m.

Start Penalties

If you start in a wave ahead of your designated wave/category/age group: your start time will be moved back to the wave time you were classified in an additional 20 minutes will be added to your finishing time.

Aid Station Closing Times

There is a strict 12 hour limit for the race with 10 Aid Stations at ~ 5 mile intervals.
If any competitor arrives at an Aid Station after the posted closing time of the station, they will be requested, urged strongly, and then TOLD to get in the van for free transportation back to the finish area at Base Camp.

Race Patrol will follow the last competitor into each Aid Station and coordinate with Radio Race Control to track each entrant.
Our purpose is to NOT lose anyone in the woods!!

Pace Times

We ask for the cooperation of those who cannot keep up a pace of 4.16 mph (14 min. 24 sec. per mile)

For online pickup and race weekend retail sales. We accept cash, checks and most major credit cards.

How Your Donation Is Put To Work At Vermont Adaptive

$25 provides a 2 hour snowshoe or Nordic outing in the winter or a 2 hour canoe or kayak outing in the summer.
$40 allows Vermont Adaptive to purchase a box of hand warmers for volunteer instructors and participants.
$60 covers the cost of a ½ day of skiing or snowboarding including equipment.
$100 covers a whole day of skiing or snowboarding in the winter or a therapeutic horseback riding lesson in the summer. (These allow us to provide scholarships to people who otherwise could not participate.)
$500 allows Vermont Adaptive to purchase new helmets for one program location.
$600 buys a new tandem bike.
$600 buys a new kayak or canoe
$1,000 outfits six Vermont Adaptive instructors with uniforms.
$3,000 provides the resources to purchase a new or piece of sit down equipment such as a mono-ski or hand cycle.

Vermont Adaptive never turns anyone away based on the ability to pay. Your fundraising is critical to helping provide scholarships for participants.
Vermont Adaptive offers YEAR-ROUND programs with skiing and winter activities PLUS canoeing, kayaking, sailing, mountain biking, cycling, hiking and more in the summer.
All veterans are welcome to participate in any Vermont Adaptive programs free of charge, because of scholarships from fundraising from events like the Vermont 50.

VT50 Drop Bags-What to Put In Them, Where to Drop Them

The Bib/Bike Plaque Lists are posted so you can get your DROP BAGS together for next weekend’s race.
Yup, that’s right the race is now 10 days away!

Where to Drop Them

Drop bags may be left at the Drop Bag Table in the big tent up before 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Use Your Crew-No Really, Have Your Crew CARRY Your Drop Bags.

You can reduce the time spent at the three CREW designated aid stations (Skunk Hollow, Greenalls and Johnsons) by having your crew bring your DROP BAGS along in their registered Crew vehicle.
This will also save time at the end of the race collecting your belongings before heading home.
They can also collect any dropped clothing at these three CREW designated aid stations (Skunk Hollow, Greenalls and Johnsons) again saving time collecting items before heading home.

How Big a Bag and How Heavy a Bag can I use?

A small backpack or gear bag, on the order of 9”x 9” x 16” is appropriate, if shoes, a top garment and bottle are included.
Weight not to exceed 10 lbs per bag. We will weigh them!
Your bag must be soft-sided (no plastic storage boxes please.) Be securely closed.
Labeled clearly with your bib number, last name and Aid Station.
Make your drop bag as unique a possible within our stated guidelines.
Drop bags will be tagged with colored tape Biker-Lime Green Tape and Runner-Yellow Tape at the Drop Bag Table.

We will deliver drop bags from the start/BIG TENT to aid stations-unless you choose to use your CREW.

If it Gets Hot, Can I Drop clothing?

Yes you can but these items WILL NOT be returned to the finish line area until that aid station is closed, the aid station is packed up and the items are driven by our volunteers back to the finish line.
NO Drop Bags or clothing at: Garvin Hill and Cady Brook
You may drop articles during the race at all other aid stations.

When Will I Get My Drop bags and clothes back at the Finish Line?

Drop bags will be returned to the BIG TENT ONLY after each aid station closes, not before.
You will have TO WAIT at the BIG TENT to pick up your drop bag and clothing.
We WILL NOT mail them to you.
This is your property and it is your responsibility to pick up your bag at the BIG TENT at the end of the race.
The Vermont 50 is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

What Should I Pack In My Drop Bags?

Drop Bag Hints

Extra pair of shoes at the first drop station, if you think there’s a chance you may need to change. Most folks never do.
Clean, dry socks
Skin lube & band-aids; If you are prone to blisters include a small ‘kit’ in each bag (i.e. band-aids, sterile wipes, talcum powder)
Electrolyte caplets or dissolving tablets, if you use them
Gels or Blocs or Stingers Gels. Gels will not be provided at the aid stations
Non-liquid snacks if your system, due to allergies, cannot tolerate items provided at the aid stations
A light waterproof or resistant layer top and lightweight cap if there’s rain in the forecast (a small pouched poncho is perfect and takes up little space)
A light jacket and even lightweight gloves if the forecast is for cold weather

Don’t pack

Anything that could break if dropped from a height of 4 feet.
No Glass Containers
wallets
cell phone (There’s no reception anyway)
purse
watches
GPS
jewelry, etc.
Don’t ever put anything in a drop bag that you aren’t prepared to part with permanently. We are not responsible for lost or stolen articles or drop bags left behind at the end of the race.

The following items can be carried in a small pouch by itself, or as part of a water belt, or a backpack: band-aids in a small plastic baggie electrolyte caplets and Advil, also in a baggie gel or chews. Bikers can carry these items on their backs in their packs or in shirt pouches.
