Vermont 50 Trails Update and Time to Confirm Your Race Info
Vermont 50 Trails Update
The Vermont 50 race committee met this past Monday, August 21st, with a focus on the race course.
Some of you may not be aware of the soggy conditions in Vermont but we’ve seen record rainfall amounts for both July and August. (Some of our neighbors’ hay fields are still under water).
With these wet conditions: some key landowners are pushing back with regard to access to their trails; many of our race community’s dirt roads continue to have washed out areas; and there is concern of how we can move forward safely.
Course Check
A recon ride was conducted by Brad Farrell, son of the founder of this race and Vermont Adaptive, (with landowner permission granted for this recon ride).
He presented his report at our committee meeting and left us with renewed optimism that our 30th anniversary could move forward.
However, safety for our participants and volunteers and landowner relationships continue to be assessed. We feel our team of dedicated committee members (especially our trail masters!) will do everything possible to give you a great and memorable VT 50.

Possible Aid Station Changes
We also want to warn everyone, that with the wet conditions (and more rain expected this weekend), crew access to at least one of the three crew aid stations, Greenall’s, may have to be eliminated due to parking concerns. In addition, some of our volunteer Aid Stations (NO CREW ACCESS) may have to be moved to somewhat different locations. We will firm up these decisions soon.
Our Use of Private Trails
Our race is unique in that we use public and private trails to give you an AWESOME experience mountain biking and trail running in Vermont, in the fall, during foliage season.
Over the years, no matter how many times we say “no pre-riding the course”, some still do.
These individuals have put a strain on our landowner relationships.
THIS year especially, YOU MUST STAY OFF THE COURSE!
Also this year, the “race course” will most likely be altered due to denial of permission to access some of our prior course trails.
Please, please, please, save your riding of our course for race day, September 24th.
